The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) entered a new chapter of leadership at this year’s Air Cargo Forum in Abu Dhabi, announcing a smooth transition at the helm that underscores both continuity and innovation within the global air logistics industry.

At a time when air cargo continues to evolve amid digital transformation, sustainability imperatives, and growing trade demands, the association’s leadership renewal signals its ongoing commitment to collaboration and progress.

Roos Bakker Takes the Helm

Stepping into the role of Chair, Roos Bakker, Manager of Business Development & Contract Management at ICTS Europe, brings both seasoned expertise and a forward-looking vision to TIACA’s leadership.

Bakker succeeds Steven Polmans, who guided TIACA through six transformative years, overseeing major strategic shifts that strengthened its position as the unified global voice of air cargo.

An aviation professional with deep roots in business development, operations, and process optimisation, Bakker is widely respected for her analytical yet people-centred approach. A graduate of the University of Amsterdam, she has worked extensively across the airport and security sectors, driving efficiency and innovation through partnerships.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Chair at such a transformative time for our industry,” said Roos Bakker. “TIACA serves as a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation. I look forward to working with our members and partners worldwide to continue advancing the air cargo industry and shaping a sustainable, connected future.”

Her appointment reflects TIACA’s growing focus on diversity, leadership renewal, and long-term sustainability — qualities increasingly essential to an industry redefining itself post-pandemic.

A Global Leadership Team for a Global Industry

Supporting Bakker in steering the association’s future are two newly appointed Co-Vice Chairs: Emir Pineda, Director of Marketing and Air Service Development at the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, and Tushar Jani, Chairman of Cargo Service Centre (CSC) Group and SCA Group of Companies.

Together, the trio represents the geographical and operational diversity that defines TIACA — spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia — and reinforcing its global inclusivity.

Emir Pineda, a veteran aviation executive with more than three decades of experience, currently leads strategic marketing, air service development, and trade facilitation efforts at Miami International Airport (MIA). Known for his innovative approach to route development and cargo community engagement, Pineda has previously held leadership positions at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Air France/KLM Martinair Cargo, and Cargolux.

A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Pineda has been instrumental in driving sustainability, digital transformation, and connectivity initiatives in global aviation.

Tushar Jani, meanwhile, is one of India’s most respected logistics pioneers. Over a career spanning four decades, he has built and transformed companies that have shaped the nation’s air cargo and logistics landscape.

As the Co-founder and former Chairman of Blue Dart Express Limited, India’s leading express logistics company, and Co-founder of Blue Dart Aviation Limited, the country’s first private air cargo carrier, Jani has championed innovation and policy reform across the sector. His continued involvement with industry bodies such as ACFI, CII, and FFFAI underscores his commitment to advancing India’s logistics ecosystem and driving modernisation through collaboration.

A Farewell with Gratitude

Outgoing Chair Steven Polmans, who has been at the forefront of TIACA’s transformation journey, reflected on his tenure with a sense of pride and optimism.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve as Chair of TIACA and to work alongside so many passionate and committed professionals who care deeply about the future of air cargo,” said Polmans. “I am confident that under Roos’s capable leadership, supported by Emir and Tushar, TIACA will continue to strengthen its global impact, foster innovation, and build on the solid foundation we have established together.”

Under Polman’s stewardship, TIACA underwent a major restructuring that modernised its governance, expanded global membership, and sharpened its focus on sustainability, digitalisation, and inclusivity — themes that remain central to its vision for the future.

Continuity, Collaboration, and the Road Ahead

Glyn Hughes, Director General of TIACA, praised the transition as both seamless and strategic.

“TIACA has really moved on significantly under Steven’s leadership these past six years,” Hughes said. “He guided the association through a transformation program that established a new pathway for growth and impact. We truly value his leadership and friendship. With Roos, Emir, and Tushar now leading the way, we are confident the association will continue to thrive — driven by their shared commitment to progress, collaboration, and sustainability.”

As TIACA continues to unite airlines, airports, freight forwarders, handlers, and logistics providers under one global umbrella, the association’s refreshed leadership promises to build on its legacy of advocacy and transformation — ensuring that air cargo remains not just a critical link in global trade, but also a leader in innovation, resilience, and sustainability.
