7Air Prepares for Widebody Expansion with Boeing 767 Freighter Addition

Miami-based cargo carrier 7Air Cargo is preparing to significantly expand its operational capabilities with the planned addition of a Boeing 767 freighter, marking the airline’s entry into the widebody cargo segment as it accelerates growth across the Caribbean and Latin American air freight markets.

The development represents a major milestone for the FAA Part 121-certified airline, which has rapidly expanded its regional cargo footprint since officially launching operations at Miami International Airport in August 2025. Industry publication Cargo Facts reported that the Boeing 767 is expected to join the fleet within the next four to six months, subject to regulatory certification and approval processes with the FAA and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The new widebody freighter is expected to substantially increase the carrier’s cargo capacity while enabling longer-range operations, higher payload volumes, and greater network flexibility as regional air cargo demand continues to strengthen.

Strategic Shift Toward Larger Cargo Operations

Founded in 2022, 7Air Cargo traces its origins to The Xtreme Group, an aviation maintenance company that later evolved into an integrated cargo aviation platform focused on freight transportation, charter operations, ACMI leasing, and logistics support services.

Since entering the cargo airline market, the company has steadily expanded its operational network across Central America and the Caribbean, positioning itself as a specialist operator for regional cargo connectivity.

The airline currently operates a fleet of four converted Boeing 737-800 freighters, comprising:

  • Two Boeing 737-800BCFs
  • Two Boeing 737-800SF aircraft

Industry sources also indicate that four additional Boeing 737-800 freighters are expected to join the fleet as part of the airline’s ongoing expansion programme.

The addition of the Boeing 767 represents a strategic evolution beyond narrowbody regional operations and signals the airline’s ambitions to handle larger-scale cargo programmes and longer-haul freight sectors.

Expanding Regional Cargo Network

7Air currently operates approximately 20 weekly all-cargo flights linking Miami with key destinations including:

  • Managua
  • Santo Domingo
  • San Juan

The carrier additionally operates charter services to Lima and Kingston, while recently expanding charter activity into Venezuela and St. Maarten as part of its broader Caribbean growth strategy.

Miami remains one of the world’s most important cargo gateways for trade between North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, particularly for perishables, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce shipments, and time-sensitive freight.

Industry analysts note that demand for flexible regional freighter capacity has continued to rise amid supply chain diversification, nearshoring activity, and increasing cross-border e-commerce flows throughout the Americas.

Boeing 767 Adds Payload and Range Advantages

The Boeing 767 platform remains one of the most widely used medium-widebody freighters in the global cargo industry due to its balanced payload capability, operational efficiency, and suitability for express logistics and e-commerce operations.

Compared with the airline’s existing Boeing 737-800 freighters — each capable of carrying approximately 22,000 kilogrammes of cargo and offering around 6,380 cubic feet of cargo space — the Boeing 767 will provide substantially larger payload and range capabilities.

The aircraft type is particularly well suited for:

  • Medium- and long-haul cargo routes
  • Express logistics operations
  • E-commerce distribution networks
  • High-density freight markets
  • Charter and ACMI operations

Industry observers suggest the addition could enable 7Air to expand beyond its current short- and medium-haul regional focus into broader transcontinental cargo opportunities.

Supporting Infrastructure and Specialized Cargo Handling

Alongside fleet expansion, 7Air has also invested in integrated cargo handling infrastructure near Miami International Airport.

The airline operates a bonded cargo warehouse spanning more than 118,000 square feet equipped with:

  • Dock-height loading doors
  • Aircraft parking positions
  • Specialized cooler storage
  • Facilities for temperature-sensitive cargo

The carrier’s current freighter fleet supports a broad range of cargo commodities, including:

  • Perishables
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Temperature-sensitive shipments
  • Courier and express parcels
  • Machinery
  • Electronics
  • Textiles
  • Live animals
  • E-commerce freight

Industry experts note that integrated ground infrastructure and cold chain capabilities are increasingly important differentiators for cargo airlines competing in pharmaceutical and perishables logistics sectors.

Growing Demand Across the Americas

The planned Boeing 767 addition comes as air cargo demand across Latin America and the Caribbean continues to strengthen, driven by:

  • Expanding e-commerce trade
  • Manufacturing diversification
  • Nearshoring trends
  • Pharmaceutical logistics growth
  • Increasing perishables exports

Cargo airlines operating within the region are increasingly investing in fleet expansion and network development to capture growing demand for reliable and flexible freight solutions.

For 7Air, the transition into widebody freighter operations is expected to significantly enhance its competitive position within the evolving regional cargo market while supporting its ambitions for broader international growth.
