Viracopos International Airport has reached a significant milestone in its logistics development, becoming the only airport in the State of São Paulo to receive Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification from Brazil’s Customs Authority, the Receita Federal do Brasil. The achievement further strengthens Viracopos’ position as a trusted gateway for international trade and air cargo operations in one of Latin America’s most important economic regions.
The AEO programme recognises companies and organisations that demonstrate high standards of security, compliance and reliability across the international supply chain. Based on guidelines set by the World Customs Organization (WCO), the initiative is designed to enhance trade facilitation by improving risk management and streamlining customs procedures for low-risk operators.
By securing AEO status, Viracopos has been formally acknowledged as a secure and dependable logistics operator, having implemented robust controls in areas such as cargo security, risk management and regulatory compliance. For cargo stakeholders using the airport, the certification translates into tangible operational benefits, including faster customs clearance, priority treatment during inspections when selected, and more predictable processing times.
The airport will also benefit from closer and more direct communication with the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service through dedicated channels, supporting quicker issue resolution and improved coordination with customs authorities.
