MSC Air Cargo has announced the launch of scheduled freighter operations between Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), marking a strategic expansion of its long-haul network. The new service is set to commence on 3 March, strengthening MSC’s footprint on one of the world’s most critical Asia–Europe air cargo corridors.
Flights will be operated using the airline’s Boeing 777-200 freighters, ensuring consistent capacity and high service standards for time-sensitive and specialised shipments.
Strategic Importance of Shanghai
MSC Air Cargo describes PVG as a core gateway within its global network, facilitating trade flows between Asia, Europe, and beyond. Shanghai’s role as a hub for international logistics is particularly vital for sectors requiring reliable, high-value transport, including automotive, aerospace, high-tech components, perishables, and other time-critical goods.

Expanding Through Strategic Partnerships
The airline has reinforced its Asian network through targeted collaborations. Last year, MSC Air Cargo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SF Express, extending their cooperation to improve air cargo connectivity on major Asia–Europe trade lanes.
In addition, an MoU with Shanghai Airport Authority Logistics Development Co is aimed at developing PVG as a central hub for MSC’s Asia-Pacific operations, supporting both freighter and specialised cargo services.
Fleet Strength and Operational Capabilities
The Milan–Shanghai service follows the airline’s recent delivery of its second newbuild 777-200F under its European AOC, registered in Italy. These aircraft complement four additional 777Fs operated by Atlas Air under a long-term ACMI agreement, providing MSC Air Cargo with flexible, scalable freighter capacity.
The airline intends to continue developing its network capabilities and specialised product offerings, focusing on industries that demand precision logistics, rapid transit, and high reliability.
By leveraging a combination of owned and ACMI-operated freighters, MSC Air Cargo aims to meet growing demand on long-haul routes while reinforcing its competitive position on Asia–Europe trade lanes.
