International shipping and logistics provider ePost Global has relocated its Chicago-area operation to a 104,000 sq ft facility in Itasca, Illinois, nearly tripling its previous footprint as it prepares for continued growth in cross-border e-commerce shipments.
Located close to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the expanded facility is now the company’s largest US processing operation for e-commerce parcels and mail. The additional space is designed to accommodate more customers, handle a wider range of shipment types and provide greater capacity as international shipping volumes increase.
The move follows sustained growth in customer demand and shipping volumes, which had pushed the company’s previous Chicago-area facility to capacity. ePost Global expects the new site to support what it anticipates will be its busiest peak season to date, while providing room for further expansion.
Kelly Martinez, co-president of ePost Global, said Chicago had become the company’s highest-volume US operation, making additional capacity necessary after a record year.
The larger facility, she said, will give the company greater scope to expand its operations, develop its services and maintain the flexibility and reliability required by customers during periods of high demand.
Greater capacity and shipment flexibility
Beyond increasing overall processing capacity, the new facility enables ePost Global to handle a broader mix of shipments, ranging from small parcels and poly mailers to larger packages.
The additional space is also intended to help the company respond to seasonal surges and disruptions across shipping networks. These periods can place pressure on available capacity and make it more difficult for e-commerce businesses to maintain consistent international shipping flows.
Fabrizio Alvear, co-founder and co-president of ePost Global, said the investment was designed to ensure that logistics capacity keeps pace with the growth of e-commerce brands and retailers.
By expanding ahead of anticipated demand, the company aims to accommodate higher shipment volumes without imposing unnecessary restrictions when network capacity is under pressure.
Automation supports processing efficiency
The expanded operation combines automated sortation with advanced scanning and tracking, optical character recognition (OCR) and piece-to-container verification technology.
These systems are designed to improve shipment identification and sorting accuracy, reduce repeated scanning and manual handling, and identify exceptions in real time. They also allow more shipments to move directly from induction into the appropriate outbound containers for onward movement to destination hubs.
The combination of additional floor space and automated processing is expected to improve operational flexibility as the company handles growing volumes and a more diverse range of shipment profiles.
For cross-border e-commerce logistics, where parcel volumes can fluctuate sharply during promotional events and seasonal peaks, the ability to process shipments efficiently and adapt to changing demand is an important part of maintaining service reliability.
The Itasca expansion reflects ePost Global’s effort to build capacity ahead of further growth, strengthening its ability to support international parcel and mail movements through one of its key US processing locations.
