FlyUs Aviation Group has established a new office in San Juan, Puerto Rico, after securing an agreement to represent Air Canada Cargo, with a focus on pharmaceutical exports and temperature-controlled freight.
The new appointment will see FlyUs provide general sales and service agent (GSSA) support for Air Canada Cargo’s freighter operations linking Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan with Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The service operates three times per week, providing connections to the airline’s wider cargo network.
FlyUs plans to prioritise pharmaceutical shipments from Puerto Rico, a major US manufacturing centre for the biosciences sector. The island’s pharmaceutical industry generates significant demand for dependable air freight capacity and temperature-controlled transport solutions.
“Puerto Rico is the number one bioscience manufacturing hub in the US by export volume, so there is a significant requirement for reliable temperature-controlled air cargo capacity from the island,” said Carlo de Haas, president and chief executive of FlyUs.
He added that the company’s experience handling temperature-sensitive commodities, including pharmaceuticals, perishables and flowers, would position its local team to support Air Canada Cargo and its customers.
The Puerto Rico appointment builds on FlyUs’ existing relationship with Air Canada. The GSSA already represents the carrier in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ecuador and several Central American countries.
Matthieu Casey, managing director of commercial cargo at Air Canada, said the partnership’s performance across multiple markets had helped build confidence in FlyUs’ capabilities.
He described the expansion into Puerto Rico as a logical development of the relationship, highlighting the importance of providing reliable cargo capacity from one of the United States’ significant export markets.
The new office forms part of FlyUs’ wider international expansion strategy. The company currently represents 24 airlines across 28 locations and plans further office openings during the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
De Haas said the Puerto Rico operation would strengthen the group’s global presence and extend its ability to support airline partners in markets where its specialist cargo expertise can add value.
