New mandate expands AVIAREPS Japan’s role with Air Cambodia and covers cargo sales, reservations and market development

AVIAREPS has been appointed Cargo General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) for Air Cambodia in Japan, expanding an existing partnership under which the aviation services company already represents the Cambodian carrier as its passenger General Sales Agent.

The new agreement, effective 1 September 2026, gives AVIAREPS Japan responsibility for cargo space sales, reservations, customer service, customer engagement and market development for Air Cambodia’s outbound cargo business in Japan.

The appointment covers shipments originating in Japan and moving to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Fuzhou, China, providing AVIAREPS with a broader role in developing Air Cambodia’s cargo business in the Japanese market.

Cargo sales to support regional connectivity

Air Cambodia operates a three-times-weekly service linking Tokyo Narita, Fuzhou and Phnom Penh, providing cargo customers with access to both Cambodia and southeastern China through the same routing.

The route was launched on 26 October 2025 and operates with Airbus A320 aircraft. Narita International Airport confirmed the service as a three-weekly operation when it was launched, while Air Cambodia continues to list the Fuzhou–Narita and Techo International Airport–Narita services on its current schedule.

AVIAREPS said the A320 operation can provide approximately 2–3 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight even when passenger loads are high, giving the airline an opportunity to develop additional bellyhold cargo traffic on the route.

The carrier’s service is notable for connecting Japan and Cambodia via Fuzhou. Narita Airport described the launch as the first Japan–Cambodia service of its kind in around four and a half years and identified Air Cambodia as the only airline providing the connection between the two countries at the time of launch.

AVIAREPS expands cargo role in Japan

For AVIAREPS, the Air Cambodia mandate adds another cargo account to an expanding Japanese market portfolio.

The company has also recently taken on passenger GSA responsibilities in Japan for Air Astana, Royal Jordanian Airlines and Air Mauritius, while securing cargo GSSA appointments for Air Astana and Royal Jordanian.

The expansion reflects a broader strategy by AVIAREPS Japan to provide airlines with commercial representation across both passenger and cargo activities.

Stephen Cox, General Manager of AVIAREPS Japan, said the company would use its local sales expertise and international network to support Air Cambodia’s cargo development.

The company will focus on strengthening relationships with Japanese customers and industry partners while increasing awareness of Air Cambodia’s cargo offering.

Strengthening Japan–Cambodia trade flows

Air Cambodia sees Japan as a market with further potential for air cargo growth.

Ly Tuan Hiep, Vice Chief of Commerce at Air Cambodia, said the carrier expected AVIAREPS’ knowledge of the Japanese market and existing customer relationships to support its expansion objectives.

The new cargo agreement comes as the airline continues to build its Japanese presence around the Narita–Fuzhou–Phnom Penh route.

Air Cambodia’s current network information confirms the three-times-weekly connection between Techo International Airport (KTI), Fuzhou Changle International Airport (FOC) and Tokyo Narita (NRT). The airline’s passenger information also confirms Fuzhou as the transit point on the Phnom Penh–Tokyo service.

For cargo customers, the route provides a combination of Japanese origin demand, Cambodian connectivity and access to Fuzhou, creating potential for traffic flows between Japan, Cambodia and China.

Focus on cargo market development

Under the GSSA agreement, AVIAREPS will be responsible not only for selling available cargo capacity but also for developing the market and maintaining relationships with freight customers and industry partners.

That role gives the GSSA responsibility across the commercial side of the cargo operation, from reservations and capacity sales through to customer engagement and market development.

The appointment also strengthens AVIAREPS Japan’s position as a commercial representative for airlines operating in the Japanese market, with both passenger and cargo services now forming part of its growing portfolio.

News authenticity check

The appointment was verified against official AVIAREPS and Air Cambodia sources, which confirm the Cargo GSSA agreement, its effective date of 1 September 2026 and the responsibilities assigned to AVIAREPS Japan.

The Narita–Fuzhou–Phnom Penh route and three-times-weekly A320 operation are independently confirmed by Narita International Airport, which announced the route’s launch in October 2025. Air Cambodia’s current website continues to list the Narita–Fuzhou and Techo International Airport–Narita services on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The claim that the aircraft can carry approximately 2–3 tonnes of cargo with full passenger loads is retained as an AVIAREPS/Air Cambodia operational estimate, rather than presented as a fixed payload specification.
