The CMA CGM Group has completed its acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain for an enterprise value of $1.4 billion, expanding the French group’s contract logistics presence in North America and establishing new commercial cooperation with FedEx across air and ocean freight.
The transaction, announced in July, brings FedEx Supply Chain into CMA CGM’s logistics subsidiary CEVA Logistics, adding nearly 10,000 employees and approximately 150 warehouses to the business.
CMA CGM said the acquisition will nearly triple CEVA’s North American contract logistics footprint, adding approximately 34 million sq ft of warehouse space. Following the integration, CEVA’s North American contract logistics operation will comprise more than 240 locations and a workforce of approximately 20,000 people.
The acquisition is part of CMA CGM’s strategy to expand its integrated logistics offering across ocean shipping, air freight, inland transportation, warehousing and value-added logistics.
Air cargo cooperation
Alongside the acquisition, CMA CGM and FedEx have entered into multi-year commercial agreements covering air and ocean freight.
The companies will collaborate on select air cargo capacity solutions on strategic routes, including Asia-Europe, with the stated objective of improving aircraft utilisation and providing greater flexibility on long-haul routes.
The arrangement does not represent an acquisition of FedEx’s air cargo fleet by CMA CGM. Instead, it establishes a commercial framework under which the two companies will work together on selected air freight capacity requirements.
CMA CGM will also become a preferred ocean carrier for FedEx under a non-exclusive agreement, providing ocean transportation and carrier services.
The companies said the agreements are intended to strengthen their respective global networks while supporting greater integration across their transportation and logistics activities.
CMA CGM already operates an air cargo business through CMA CGM Air Cargo, while FedEx maintains one of the world’s largest dedicated air express networks. The new cooperation provides an additional mechanism for the companies to use their respective networks and capabilities on selected international freight flows.
CEVA expands North American logistics footprint
The acquisition significantly increases CEVA’s physical logistics infrastructure in the United States and Canada.
FedEx Supply Chain’s approximately 150 warehouses will be integrated into CEVA’s existing network, adding around 34 million sq ft of capacity and expanding the company’s ability to provide contract logistics and distribution services.
CMA CGM said the combined operation will also strengthen CEVA’s capabilities in sectors including healthcare, technology, consumer and retail.
The transaction brings together complementary operational and digital capabilities, with CMA CGM highlighting opportunities to accelerate automation and robotics across the expanded North American network.
The deal also reinforces the group’s long-term investment strategy in the United States, which CMA CGM identifies as a strategic market for its logistics activities.
A broader end-to-end logistics strategy
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, said the completion of the acquisition represented an important development for CMA CGM and CEVA in North America.
“By significantly expanding our contract logistics capabilities, we are strengthening our ability to offer customers integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions across ocean, air, land and logistics,” Saadé said.
He added that the acquisition reinforces CMA CGM’s commitment to investment in the United States and to improving supply-chain resilience and efficiency.
FedEx said the completion of the transaction forms part of its broader portfolio transformation and allows the company to concentrate resources on its core transportation and delivery activities.
Raj Subramaniam, President and Chief Executive Officer of FedEx, said the sale represented another milestone in the company’s strategy to simplify its portfolio and focus on its core network.
The transaction was originally announced on July 1, 2026, with completion subject to customary regulatory approvals. FedEx confirmed the sale was completed on October 1.
For the air cargo sector, the acquisition is significant not because CMA CGM is taking over FedEx’s aircraft fleet, but because the transaction is accompanied by a separate commercial framework that could allow both companies to coordinate selected air cargo capacity while CEVA gains substantially greater warehousing and contract logistics capabilities in North America.
