Envirotainer, a global provider of temperature-controlled air cargo solutions for the pharmaceutical industry, has expanded its presence in India with the opening of a new cold chain station in Navi Mumbai. The facility, the company’s sixth station in the country, significantly increases capacity in western India and reinforces its commitment to supporting one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturing and export hubs. The expansion was announced by Envirotainer through its official channels.

Located in the heart of India’s western pharmaceutical corridor, the new station doubles the capacity of Envirotainer’s existing Mumbai operation, enabling pharmaceutical manufacturers and logistics providers to access a broader range of temperature-controlled shipping solutions. The investment is designed to support the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of medicines, vaccines and other temperature-sensitive healthcare products to global markets.

Expanded Cold Chain Capabilities

The Navi Mumbai facility offers customers access to Envirotainer’s complete portfolio of active and passive temperature-controlled packaging solutions. It also introduces local preconditioning capabilities for the company’s Parcel and ProofTainer product lines, allowing packaging systems to be prepared locally before shipment.

By enabling preconditioning closer to the point of origin, Envirotainer aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce preparation times and strengthen cold chain integrity throughout the transportation process.

The company also confirmed that a dedicated repair and service centre will open at the site in the coming months, providing full lifecycle maintenance and refurbishment services for reusable temperature-controlled containers. The additional capability is expected to improve equipment availability while bringing technical support closer to pharmaceutical exporters across the region.

Supporting India’s Pharmaceutical Export Growth

The latest investment reflects India’s growing strategic importance within the global pharmaceutical supply chain.

India is one of the world’s largest producers of generic medicines, supplying approximately 20% of global generic drug demand and 55–60% of UNICEF’s vaccine requirements. According to industry data referenced by Envirotainer, the country’s pharmaceutical exports reached US$30.5 billion during the 2024–25 financial year, reinforcing its position as a major exporter of life-saving medicines and vaccines.

As international shipments of temperature-sensitive healthcare products continue to increase, demand for reliable cold chain infrastructure has become increasingly critical to maintaining product quality and regulatory compliance throughout transit.

Positioned for Future Growth

The new station has been strategically established ahead of the planned commencement of cargo operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, expected later this year.

By investing in infrastructure before the airport becomes fully operational, Envirotainer is positioning itself to meet anticipated growth in pharmaceutical exports while supporting customers with expanded capacity and improved service responsiveness.
