FedEx launches five-weekly Guangzhou-Sydney 777F freighter service

FedEx has launched a dedicated nonstop freighter service linking its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China, with Sydney, Australia, adding direct cargo capacity between the two markets and reducing transit times for selected shipments from across Asia.

The service, which began on August 3, operates five times a week using Boeing 777 freighters between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Sydney Airport.

According to FedEx, the new connection is expected to cut transit times by up to one business day for eligible shipments originating in southern mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Selected shipments can reach Australia in as little as two business days.

The new route is aimed at strengthening trade connectivity into Australia as supply chains across Asia become increasingly regionalised. FedEx said the additional direct capacity will give businesses greater access to the Australian market, particularly for heavyweight and high-value shipments, while improving speed-to-market.

Salil Chari, president of Asia Pacific at FedEx, said network reliability and connectivity were increasingly important as supply chains evolve and customer expectations rise.

The Guangzhou-Sydney service is the latest in a series of network investments by FedEx in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2025, the company introduced five-times-weekly Boeing 767 freighter services between Guangzhou and Penang, Malaysia, and added five weekly 767F flights between Guangzhou and Bangkok, Thailand.

FedEx has also strengthened its regional connections through an enhanced service linking Guangzhou with Hanoi and South Korea.

The new Sydney route provides a direct link from the FedEx Guangzhou hub into Australia, giving shippers in several major Asian markets an alternative to connecting routings and additional capacity on the Asia-Australia trade lane.

FedEx said the service forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen intra-Asia connectivity and support faster, more resilient supply chains as regional trade continues to expand.
