Cargo Traffic Up Significantly
Hamad International Airport in Doha reported a notable 12% increase in cargo traffic for the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The airport handled a total of 1.25 million tonnes of cargo from January to June, with June alone seeing 213,873 tonnes of goods processed.Expansion and New CarriersThe airport has expanded its network with several new carriers joining its roster this year. Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Southern Airlines, and Akasa Air have all begun operations at Hamad International. Additionally, Iberia, Xiamen Airlines, and Vistara, which joined the airport’s network late last year, have contributed to the increased traffic.Increased Aircraft MovementsIn the first six months of 2024, Hamad International recorded 138,471 aircraft movements, marking a 19% year-on-year increase. This rise reflects the growing demand and operational capacity of the airport.Expansion Project CompletedThe completion of the first phase of Hamad International’s expansion project has significantly boosted its capacity, supporting its growing cargo and passenger traffic.Qatar Airways Dominates CargoQatar Airways, the world’s largest air cargo carrier, remains the airport’s primary customer, underscoring Hamad International’s crucial role in global air freight.
