  • First seamless data transfers of shipment records made possible through close collaboration
  • Unified data standard under IATA initiative sets new benchmarks for the air cargo industry
  • Faster and more resilient cargo transport in the future made possible via close integration of all parties in the supply chain

Lufthansa Cargo has collaborated with WiseTech Global and IBS Software to implement the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) new ONE Record unified data standard for cargo transport, successfully exchanging shipment records in a production environment. The collaboration is one of the first large-scale, multi-stakeholder implementations of the ONE Record standard. IATA introduced ONE Record in January 2026 to enable the easy and transparent exchange of data in a digital ecosystem of air cargo stakeholders, communities, and data platforms. Building on several years working together, Lufthansa Cargo worked with WiseTech Global and IBS Software to operationalize the new standard across stakeholders. Within the collaboration, WiseTech is the system provider used by many freight forwarders and IBS Software is the system provider of the airline, Lufthansa Cargo.

The collaboration marks a significant contribution to the digital transformation of the air cargo industry by enabling shipment data to be shared and processed more seamlessly between airlines, customers and partners. The key advantage of the new standard is that freight data can be checked and processed within a company’s own systems prior to the actual transport. Furthermore, significantly more freight data and file formats can be exchanged than was previously possible. This creates greater transparency throughout the transport chain down to the level of individual shipments, with improved opportunities for proactive management at every stage of the process. The first use cases demonstrated by Lufthansa Cargo, WiseTech Global, and IBS Software involve processing data from Master Air Waybills using ONE Record to allow data for air cargo shipments to be seamlessly shared and processed between freight forwarders and the airline. The shipment records were executed by a freight forwarder in WiseTech’s CargoWise platform at Master Air Waybill level and successfully received and processed in Lufthansa Cargo’s system via the IBS ONE Record server. This is an important step towards faster, more transparent and more resilient cargo transport across the supply chain.

“Lufthansa Cargo has been actively driving the introduction of ONE Record for many years to support more efficient, paperless data sharing within the industry. Following several pilot projects, we are now ready to connect to customers and partners even faster and more efficiently at scale. Furthermore, this seamless data exchange lays the foundation for introducing further digital benefits and AI-powered services,” explains Dr. Jasmin Kaiser, Head of Information Management & Chief Data Officer at Lufthansa Cargo. “We are proud to have used our expertise and experience to help launch another important digitalization project in the air cargo industry, jointly with our strong partners of IBS Software and WiseTech Global.”

Elias Hatzigeorgiou, Senior Product Manager at WiseTech Global says: “WiseTech collaborated closely with IBS Software and Lufthansa Cargo over many months to successfully implement the new ONE Record standard for the shipment record. This achievement demonstrates what is possible when industry leaders collaborate around a digital vision. As early adopters, we are not only proving the value of IATA’s ONE Record standard but also helping to accelerate the industry’s transition to a truly connected air cargo ecosystem where stakeholders can exchange shipment data seamlessly, securely and in real time. By replacing fragmented communications with a standardized, single source of truth for shipment data, ONE Record will unlock new levels of transparency, efficiency and collaboration across the global air cargo supply chain.”

Radhesh Menon, Head of Cargo & Logistics Solutions at IBS Software, adds: “Partnering with Lufthansa Cargo and WiseTech Global, both recognised leaders in their respective fields, marks a significant collaboration for IBS Software. Technology, and digitalisation are significant drivers of growth for the air cargo industry, and we look forward to responding to the evolving needs of the industry, and leading ONE Record ready innovation.”

ONE Record is the future standard for end-to-end data exchange along the air cargo transport chain. Developed under the coordination of IATA, this standard defines a common data model for cargo data shared via a standardized and secure API. The standard is offered as a free open-source solution and is continuously refined through an open and transparent development process. This future-proof technology is designed to ensure compliance with growing regulatory requirements well into the future. Through the implementation of various use cases, ONE Record is being gradually adopted across the global air cargo industry. To take advantage of these benefits, shippers, freight forwarders, and data platforms can connect their IT systems to ONE Record via an API and then track their cargo shipment data or, if necessary, correct or supplement it.
