The proposed acquisition of the Portland-based logistics provider will significantly expand Scan Global Logistics’ international footprint, strengthen its integrated supply chain capabilities and position the Danish group among the world’s 20 largest freight forwarders.
Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has signed an agreement to acquire OIA Global, a Portland, Oregon-based provider of end-to-end supply chain and logistics services, in what represents the largest investment in the Danish logistics group’s history.
The proposed transaction is expected to strengthen SGL’s global market position, broaden its service portfolio and expand its presence across key international markets. Following completion, the combined organisation is expected to rank among the world’s 20 largest freight forwarders.
The acquisition marks a significant development in the consolidation of the international logistics sector, as major freight forwarding groups continue to pursue strategic investments to expand their geographical reach, diversify service offerings and strengthen integrated supply chain solutions.
OIA Global brings extensive international capabilities
Founded in 1988, OIA Global has developed a diversified logistics business serving customers across multiple industries and international markets.
The company employs more than 1,200 people and operates through a network of over 60 offices across more than 30 countries. Its 2025 revenue was approximately US$780 million, according to Scan Global Logistics.
Its service portfolio extends well beyond conventional freight forwarding and includes:
- International air, ocean and road freight forwarding.
- Customs brokerage and clearance.
- Contract logistics and warehousing.
- Project logistics and specialised cargo movements.
- Fourth-party logistics (4PL) and supply chain management.
- Packaging design and materials management.
The breadth of OIA’s operations is expected to complement SGL’s existing global network and provide customers with access to a wider range of integrated logistics services.
Stronger position in the US and strategic markets
A major objective of the acquisition is to strengthen Scan Global Logistics’ position in the United States, while expanding its capabilities in other strategically important markets.
The combination will bring together SGL’s international network, which spans six continents and comprises more than 5,100 employees across over 200 offices, with OIA’s established customer relationships and specialised logistics expertise.
The companies expect the expanded organisation to offer customers greater geographical coverage, additional supply chain solutions and improved flexibility in managing increasingly complex international logistics requirements.
The acquisition also reflects the continuing consolidation of the global freight forwarding industry, where established operators are seeking greater scale and broader service capabilities to meet changing shipper requirements.
Leadership welcomes strategic partnership
Allan Melgaard, Global Chief Executive Officer of Scan Global Logistics, described the agreement as a major milestone in the company’s development.
“The acquisition of OIA Global marks a significant milestone for Scan Global Logistics. As our largest investment to date, it will place us among the world’s top 20 freight forwarders, strengthen our position in key markets, and expand our capabilities across the supply chain.
“Together with OIA Global’s talented people and experienced leadership team, we will create a stronger, more resilient platform for future growth,” Melgaard said.
Jeffery Barrie, Chief Executive Officer of OIA Global, highlighted the cultural and operational similarities between the two organisations, particularly their emphasis on customer relationships, entrepreneurial thinking and empowered local management teams.
“What stood out to us about Scan Global Logistics was not only the scale of the organisation, but also the way it does business. Both companies are built on strong customer relationships, entrepreneurial thinking, and empowered local teams. These shared values provide a strong foundation for the future and make SGL the right partner for OIA Global,” Barrie said.
Completion expected in first quarter of 2027
The proposed acquisition remains subject to customary regulatory approvals. Both companies will continue operating independently until the transaction is completed.
Closing is expected in the first quarter of 2027. Financial details of the acquisition have not been publicly disclosed.
For Scan Global Logistics, the addition of OIA Global represents a substantial expansion of its international platform and service portfolio. The transaction is expected to strengthen its competitive position in the global freight forwarding market while providing a broader range of logistics solutions to customers across international supply chains.
