Swissport has officially launched air cargo handling services for Qatar Airways’ new weekly freighter flights between Vienna International Airport (VIE) and Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha. This new service marks a pivotal expansion for Swissport in Vienna and reinforces its status as a leading air cargo provider.
Swissport announced the development on LinkedIn on September 3, describing it as a significant milestone in their operations. The company has expanded its Wien-Schwechat Air Cargo Center to meet growing e-commerce demands and anticipates further growth in the near future.
In April, Swissport Cargo Services Austria achieved TAPA FSR-C certification, recognizing the high standards of its air cargo logistics handling at Vienna International Airport. This certification underscores Swissport’s commitment to quality and security in its cargo operations.
Further enhancing its capabilities, Swissport opened an 8,000 square meter air cargo warehouse in Fischamend in 2022. This facility is connected to Swissport’s on-airport cargo center at Vienna International Airport via a dedicated electric truck, facilitating seamless cargo movement and expanded operational efficiency.
With these advancements, Swissport is poised to significantly grow its freight forwarder handling business. The company projects handling 120,000 tons of cargo in Vienna by 2024, reflecting a substantial increase in its operational capacity and service offerings.
