Swissport has begun providing cargo handling services for LATAM Cargo at Cape Town International Airport and O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, supporting the carrier’s South African operations and its connection with São Paulo in Brazil.
The new handling arrangement brings together Swissport’s established cargo operations in South Africa with LATAM Cargo’s international network. Swissport operates a cargo warehouse at Cape Town International Airport and five air cargo warehouses at O.R. Tambo International Airport, providing general and special cargo handling at both locations.
The agreement adds another airline relationship to Swissport’s African cargo portfolio as the company continues to develop its handling network across the continent. Its South African operations form part of a broader global cargo infrastructure that includes cargo acceptance, documentation, pallet and container handling, and aircraft loading and unloading.
The development also strengthens the operational link between South Africa and Brazil. Swissport provides cargo handling at São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, giving the ground handler an established presence at both ends of the South Africa–Brazil air cargo connection.
The latest expansion follows a series of investments by Swissport in its African cargo network. In August, the company announced a new temperature-controlled cargo facility at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania, designed to support temperature-sensitive commodities. Swissport has also recently expanded its relationships with airlines in other markets, including a wider ground handling and cargo agreement with Etihad Airways announced in September.
For LATAM Cargo, the South African operation adds Swissport’s local cargo handling capabilities at two of the country’s principal international gateways. For Swissport, the agreement further expands its role in supporting international carriers and cross-border cargo flows, while reinforcing its presence across the African air cargo market.
