- Washington Dulles Airport has joined Pharma.Aero as a strategic member, represented by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.
- This expands Pharma.Aero’s presence in North America as VEDP will bring its exisitng work to support economic development, international trade and logistics across the Commonwealth of Virginia into the Pharma.Aero fold.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) has joined Pharma.Aero as a Strategic Member, representing Washington Dulles International Airport and strengthening the organisation’s presence in the North American pharmaceutical and life sciences logistics market.
The new membership brings VEDP’s work in economic development, international trade and logistics across Virginia into Pharma.Aero’s global cross-industry network, which brings together stakeholders from across the pharmaceutical and healthcare supply chain.
Pharma.Aero said the addition of VEDP and Washington Dulles provides the network with a new US perspective and further connects it with Virginia’s wider life sciences, logistics and international trade ecosystem.
Through VEDP, Washington Dulles joins a global community of more than 100 Pharma.Aero members spanning life sciences manufacturers, airports, seaports, airlines, freight forwarders, ground handlers and other supply-chain stakeholders.
“Joining Pharma.Aero represents an important step in expanding the visibility and competitiveness of Virginia’s life sciences and logistics ecosystem,” said Eric Jehu, VEDP Vice President of Transportation & Logistics.
Jehu said the partnership would provide an opportunity to work with industry leaders, airports and supply-chain partners across the Pharma.Aero network while highlighting the role of Washington Dulles and Virginia in pharmaceutical logistics and global trade.
Under the Strategic Membership, VEDP will participate in Pharma.Aero’s strategic discussions, collaborative projects and industry initiatives, contributing expertise from Virginia and Washington Dulles to the organisation’s international healthcare logistics network.
Frank Van Gelder, Secretary General of Pharma.Aero, said the membership would strengthen the organisation’s North American network by bringing together Washington Dulles and Virginia’s broader life sciences and logistics ecosystem.
“Welcoming VEDP as a Strategic Member strengthens Pharma.Aero’s network with the perspective of Washington Dulles International Airport and Virginia’s broader life sciences and logistics ecosystem,” Van Gelder said.
Philipp Coloseus, VEDP Director of Air Cargo, said the organisation would use the collaboration to support Virginia’s position as a gateway for pharmaceutical and healthcare supply chains while developing opportunities for innovation, connectivity and industry partnerships.
The membership comes as Washington Dulles is also being positioned for further growth in pharmaceutical logistics. VEDP has been working with Brussels Airport and United Airlines on the development of a pharmaceutical logistics corridor between Washington Dulles and Brussels, linking Virginia’s growing biopharmaceutical manufacturing base with an established European life sciences hub.
VEDP said the partnership with Brussels Airport and United is intended to support the development of an optimised pharmaceutical supply chain between the two regions, including the movement of raw materials and finished medicines.
Pharma.Aero said the addition of VEDP and Washington Dulles will create further opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration around challenges affecting pharmaceutical and healthcare logistics, including supply-chain resilience, international connectivity, innovation and multimodal transportation.
The organisation’s membership structure includes Strategic, Full and Associate membership categories, with Strategic Members playing a role in decision-making, board representation and the development of global logistics initiatives.
