Uzbekistan Airways, the national airline of Uzbekistan, has announced its plans to increase the volume of freight traffic by 19% in 2023. The move comes as part of the airline’s efforts to expand its cargo operations and take advantage of the growing demand for air cargo transportation.
The airline has been steadily increasing its cargo transportation capabilities over the past few years. In 2019, Uzbekistan Airways launched its first Boeing 767-300ERF freighter, which has a payload capacity of up to 53 tonnes.
The airline also operates a fleet of Boeing 767-300BCF and 787-8 freighters.
According to the airline, the increase in the volume of freight traffic in 2023 will be achieved through a combination of measures, including expanding the fleet of freighters, improving cargo handling processes, and enhancing the airline’s cargo network.
Uzbekistan Airways has already taken steps to improve its cargo handling capabilities.
In 2020, the airline opened a new cargo terminal at Tashkent International Airport, which has a capacity of up to 400,000 tonnes per year.
The terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a fully automated cargo handling system and a temperature-controlled storage area for perishable goods.
