Cradle-to-cradle solution reduces weight, wood consumption and emissions

SkyTeam Cargo, the world’s only air cargo alliance, has introduced the latest developed paper-based carton pallet as a replacement for wood and plastic, Euro and Block pallets at this week’s air cargo China event. Weighing between 10 – 15kg less than wooden and plastic pallets, depending on size, SkyTeam Cargo’s carton pallets are made from 94% recycled fibers, are humidity resistant and comply with ISPM 15 standards. Unlike Euro pallets, the new carton pallets can be used multiple times, depending on handling and usage, reducing wood consumption, waste and emissions. The latest version of the carton pallet has been developed by TRIP&CO and is EASA part 21G approved. The pallet was successfully trialed last year by SkyTeam Cargo members, Air France Cargo and KLM Cargo during SkyTeam’s annual flight challenge. This brings together global airlines in a shared mission to find new ways to cut aviation’s footprint across all areas of operations, including cargo.  “SkyTeam Cargo has been delighted to meet with industry partners during air cargo China to demonstrate how this revolutionary pallet could make a positive impact on their business,” said John Engelaan, VP SkyTeam Cargo. “The latest version of our carton pallet that not only cuts costs, but also has the potential to significantly cut emissions – something the air cargo industry is striving towards. Substituting one-way Euro pallets for SkyTeam’s multiple-use carton pallets could reduce the industry’s wood consumption, weight and emissions.” Highlights of SkyTeam’s new carton pallet include:

Tailormade·       Manufactured to customer specifications. ·       Available in 2- and 4-way pallets in all required sizes. ·       Ideal for roll conveyers’ usage. ·       Can be assembled locally to minimize costs.Lightweight ·       Carton pallet weight: 3.4 – 6.2 kg. ·       Wooden pallet weight: 20 – 25 kg. ·       User-friendly due to ease of handling. ·       Cost savings on transportation, notably in airfreight. Environmentally Friendly ·       Simple disposal process. ·       Reduced costs in recycling. ·       Fumigation is unnecessary. ·       Globally accepted without restrictions due to ISPM-15 compliance. ·       100% recyclable material.Other features·       Supports static loads of up to 3000kgOptimized use of aircraft pallet ·       Humidity resistant pallet crafted from recycled paper·       Designed to replace traditional wooden and plastic pallets
