Progress supported by $200m investment in fleet modernisation

Menzies Aviation, the leading service partner to the world’s airports and airlines, has achieved its global target of 25% electric Ground Support Equipment (GSE), underpinned by a USD$200 million investment in modernising its vehicle fleet.

Menzies Aviation is committed to reducing emissions across its operations to support its goal of becoming net-zero by 2045.

It added more than 620 electric GSE assets in 2025 increasing the proportion of electric GSE globally from 22% in 2024 to 25% by year end. Today, 11 locations operate fleets with more than 70% electric GSE, while more than 20 locations exceed 50%, highlighting the scale of change across Menzies’ global network.

Europe continues to lead the transition, with more than half of all GSE now electric across the region, supported by strong airport charging infrastructure and close collaboration with airline partners. At Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Italy, where we operate in partnership with AGS Handling, more than 80% of motorised GSE is now electric, combined with a permanent switch to electric Pre-Conditioned Air Units, enabling fully electric aircraft turns.

In Manchester, UK, two additional hybrid de-icing rigs were deployed, increasing the station’s electric GSE to 40%. Fully electric fuel hydrant dispensers were also introduced at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) and Copenhagen Airport (CPH), supporting quieter operations, improved air quality and reduced Scope 1 emissions.

In 2025, Menzies operations in Oceania & South East Asia increased to 30% electric. In Cairns, Australia, Menzies began electric ground power unit (GPU) trials.

Where full electrification is not yet viable, Menzies continues to expand the use of lower emission alternatives, such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). In 2025, the business used two million litres of HVO, a 50% year-on-year increase on 2024, with expanded use at London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Gatwick Airport (LGW). HVO has fully replaced diesel in several locations, including San Diego, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and Stockholm Arlanda, with additional use across the UK, the Nordics and Spain.

Jonathan Hankin, Head of ESG, Menzies Aviation, said: “2025 was a year of real progress towards out net-zero target. Achieving our ambitious goal of 25% electric GSE by 2025 across our fleet and accelerating our adoption of lower‑emissions fuels and renewable energy demonstrates our commitment to reducing emissions, even as our global network continues to grow. We are now focused on building on this momentum, with further increases in electric GSE already underway across our network.”
