Alitalia’s maiden passenger-to-cargo flight uplifted 45 tonnes of cargo flew from Mumbai destined to Rome and then to New York on June 21. The carrier will be operating a weekly flight every Sunday on the Mumbai-Rome-New York route. This route will be served by B777 passenger aircraft without seats.

Alitalia has been successfully operating a daily passenger service between Rome and New Delhi with A330 aircraft since 2018 till the suspension of the international air services due to Covid-19 pandemic. Alitalia has a wide network offering connectivity to Europe, the USA, South America, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East besides the domestic Italian destinations.

In the current situation, the airline has curtailed its domestic as well as international services. Alitalia currently operates some scheduled flights to some intercontinental and short-medium haul destinations, both domestic and international. This includes limited flights to Buenos Aires, New York and Boston besides Mumbai. Cargo charter solutions are also available, using the passenger aircrafts’ belly capacity, and special flights are organized on a spot basis.
