American Airlines Cargo is ramping up its global operations in preparation for the peak summer shipping season, unveiling a significantly expanded widebody schedule that will increase transatlantic capacity, introduce new European routes, and reinforce connectivity across its U.S. and Latin American network.
At the height of summer operations, the carrier plans to operate up to 186 international widebody flights per day, marking a substantial increase in available cargo capacity across key global trade lanes. The expansion reflects continued demand for reliable air freight solutions during one of the busiest periods of the year for international logistics.
Between June and August, American Airlines Cargo will operate approximately 4,400 monthly widebody flights linking the United States and Europe. This intensified schedule further strengthens the airline’s position in the highly competitive transatlantic market, with a particular focus on high-demand gateways such as London Heathrow Airport. The hub is set to experience the most significant growth, with frequencies rising to 21 daily departures, enhancing cargo flows between Europe and multiple U.S. destinations.
The expanded summer schedule also introduces new routes and frequency increases across several European markets, improving access to key economic centers. Among the notable additions are services connecting Athens with Dallas/Fort Worth, Budapest and Prague with Philadelphia, Zurich with Dallas/Fort Worth, Milan with Miami, and Edinburgh with New York JFK. The Edinburgh–New York route will be operated using the Airbus A321XLR, further diversifying the airline’s fleet deployment on transatlantic sectors.
In Central Europe, the carrier is strengthening its presence with increased widebody operations from Germany, including daily flights from Frankfurt to both Charlotte and Dallas/Fort Worth, as well as daily service from Munich to Charlotte. These routes are expected to support growing cargo demand across industrial and manufacturing hubs in the region.
Beyond Europe, American Airlines Cargo is also scaling up its Latin American operations. Additional widebody service between Buenos Aires and Dallas/Fort Worth will provide increased cargo capacity between South America and the airline’s central U.S. hub, enabling smoother connections to onward destinations across North America and beyond.
Domestically, the airline is reinforcing its network through its Dallas/Fort Worth hub, which will anchor a robust summer schedule of more than 6,200 daily departures at peak. Enhanced widebody services from Honolulu and Kahului to Dallas/Fort Worth will further integrate Pacific routes into the broader cargo network, creating additional pathways for freight movement into the continental United States.
Roger Samways, Vice President of Commercial at American Airlines Cargo, stated that the expanded schedule is designed to align capacity with customer demand during the high season. He emphasized that the combination of increased transatlantic frequencies, new international routes, and strong domestic connectivity positions the airline to support global supply chains with greater efficiency and reliability. The summer 2026 expansion highlights the carrier’s ongoing strategy to optimize network performance while addressing evolving market dynamics, particularly in high-demand corridors linking Europe, the Americas, and the Pacific.
