American Airlines to expand cargo-only operation

American Airlines is expanding its cargo-only operation this month with new flights to Rome, Heathrow, Zurich and Paris.New flights beginning May include cargo-only services from American’s largest hub in the Midwest, Chicago O’Hare, to London Heathrow Airport and Paris Charles De Gaulle.From Philadelphia, American will begin cargo-only services to Zurich and Rome Fiumicino Airport.“From Zurich American will be transporting essential pharmaceutical chemicals, trucked from Germany, destined for San Juan Airport,” the airline said.From New York, John F. Kennedy Airport, American will commence cargo-only service to Heathrow. On the US bound flight, mail and flowers will be flown to reach those across the country celebrating Mother’s Day on May 10.“At the end of March, we introduced two cargo-only flights from Frankfurt (FRA), the first cargo-only flight for American since 1984. With the support of our tremendous team, we now offer cargo capacity on 126 international flights per week,” said Tim Isik, director cargo sales – Europe, Middle East and Africa.The airline said that it has been transporting medical supplies, personal protective equipment and pharmaceuticals, as well as essential goods including manufacturing and automotive equipment, mail, fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, and healthcare products.In total, the airline will offer cargo-only flights to 126 weekly flights to 15 cities in the US, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.In addition, American continues to carry cargo on all its passenger flights.
