The airport is now at approximately two-third of the volumes compared to the same period as last year.

After an unforeseen poor start to the year in terms of heavily reduced air cargo capacity and volumes, traffic is slowly but steadily returning to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) in Denmark. The resumption is due to ongoing ‘Preighter’ operations (widebody passenger aircraft operating as cargo aircraft) and resuming widebody passenger operations with bellyhold capacity. The airport is now at approximately two-third of the volumes compared to the same period as last year.

“In the beginning of Covid-19, pure freighters really experienced golden days, however, covering only the most necessary part of the market, and therefore preighters were introduced by airlines to meet the ongoing demand,” says Kaspar Andreas Nissen, air cargo specialist at Copenhagen Airports.

Since spring, preighters have been operated on a regular basis to and from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) by Air Canada, Emirates SkyCargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, SAS Cargo and Singapore Airlines. During the summer and autumn, some of these operations have gradually shifted from cargo-only operations to passenger and cargo operations and thereby transitioning to more normal, and hopefully sustainable, conditions and volumes.
