Strategic Acquisition to Boost Airfreight and Retail Logistics
DP World has finalized its acquisition of Cargo Services Far East Ltd, a Hong Kong-based logistics provider, to enhance its capabilities in retail and fashion logistics and expand its airfreight operations. This acquisition marks a significant step for DP World in broadening its logistics offerings and strengthening its position in the global supply chain sector.
Cargo Services Far East Overview – Founded in 1989, Cargo Services Far East Ltd is a prominent logistics service provider with a workforce of over 2,500 employees across Greater China, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and the US. The company specializes in origin purchase order management, ocean freight, airfreight, and warehousing. Its diverse portfolio includes supply chain management for retail and high-fashion clients in key markets such as the US, UK, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, Cargo Services has developed a specialized cruise logistics service for global clients.
Leadership Transition – John Lau, the Group Managing Director of Cargo Services, will continue with the company and assume a senior leadership role within DP World. Integration and Expansion Plans – Cargo Services Far East will be fully integrated into DP World’s operations over the coming months. With this acquisition, DP World’s global workforce will exceed 115,000 employees, operating across 800 locations worldwide. By year-end, DP World is set to manage over 200 freight forwarding offices, covering up to 95% of global trade flows.
In addition to this acquisition, DP World recently launched its first air cargo logistics hub in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Airfreight operations at this new hub commenced in May with the arrival of the first freighter aircraft, marking another milestone in DP World’s expansion strategy.
