The second phase of construction at the Leipzig/Halle Airport Technology Park was officially opened on November 22, 2022, at a celebratory event held by the investor, Greenfield Development.

GEORGI Handling will operate the new handling hall for air cargo as a bonded warehouse with aviation security status starting in 2023.

All types of air freight consignments, from general cargo and hazardous goods to refrigerated and special goods, will be handled at the new location, which will have 15,000 square meters of hall space and 1,500 square meters of office and communal area starting in spring 2023.

The additional infrastructure will allow GEORGI Handling to unlock long-term organic growth at Leipzig Airport.

Working in partnership with DHL, GEORGI Handling aims to expand its existing business model at Frankfurt Airport, too.

This step will be made possible by direct links to current warehouses in Leipzig/Halle and Frankfurt and creates the ability to offer integrated logistics solutions along the entire supply and value chain.

GEORGI Handling is not the only one to benefit from the elimination of unnecessary individual contacts for customers and the reduction of interfaces.

“The Leipzig/Halle Airport is the European cargo airport in Central Europe,” remarks Diana Schöneich, GEORGI Handling’s CEO“Its existing first-class infrastructure and GEORGI Handling’s hall space, which has now been tripled, leads us to expect sustainable growth at this location.”

Once the buildings are completed, GEORGI Handling will lease the entirety of construction phase two, Halls 6 and 7.

During the ceremony, which included welcome remarks by Schkeuditz Mayor Rayk Bergner und Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughäfen, Jürgen Georgi, managing partner of GEORGI Group, stressed: “Our investments in state-of-the-art materials handling technology and mobile technical equipment allow GEORGI Handling to offer all new and existing customers tailored services at a high international quality level.”
