IAG Cargo Expands Pharmaceutical Network with New Constant Climate Station in Kuala Lumpur

IAG Cargo has expanded its pharmaceutical logistics network with the addition of Kuala Lumpur International Airport to its Constant Climate network, strengthening temperature-controlled cargo capabilities across Southeast Asia.

IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), has added a new Constant Climate-approved station at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) as demand continues to rise for secure and reliable transportation of pharmaceuticals and other temperature-sensitive healthcare products.

The Kuala Lumpur facility is equipped to handle both active and passive temperature-controlled shipments and forms part of IAG Cargo’s GDP-focused pharmaceutical handling network.

With the latest addition, IAG Cargo now has approximately 100 Constant Climate-approved stations worldwide, including 13 locations across the Asia-Pacific region.

Strengthening Southeast Asia’s pharma connectivity

The expansion is designed to support growing pharmaceutical trade between Southeast Asia and major global healthcare markets, particularly as the pharmaceutical sector increasingly relies on temperature-controlled transportation for products such as biologics, vaccines, diagnostic samples and advanced therapies.

Jordan Kohlbeck, Head of Pharmaceutical at IAG Cargo, said the Kuala Lumpur addition strengthens the company’s presence in Southeast Asia while responding to increasing demand for specialised pharmaceutical handling.

He said the growth of life sciences and the increasing movement of biologics, cell and gene therapies and personalised medicines are creating greater requirements for speed, precision and temperature control across the air cargo supply chain.

Kuala Lumpur is connected to London Heathrow through a daily service, providing pharmaceutical shippers with access to IAG Cargo’s wider Constant Climate network.

The schedule has also been structured to support onward connections at Heathrow. Early-morning arrivals into London enable same-day connections to a number of Constant Climate stations across the network, helping accelerate the movement of temperature-sensitive shipments.

Supporting high-value, temperature-sensitive cargo

IAG Cargo’s Constant Climate product is designed specifically for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments. The service accommodates both active solutions, including temperature-controlled containers, and passive solutions using technologies such as cold packs, dry ice and phase-change materials.

The network handles a range of pharmaceutical and life sciences products, including vaccines, biotechnology products and diagnostic materials.

IAG Cargo said the addition of Kuala Lumpur will provide customers with greater access to specialist cold-chain handling as pharmaceutical supply chains across Asia-Pacific become increasingly complex.

The company’s latest expansion also follows the development of the Global Cargo Joint Business involving IAG Cargo, Malaysia Airlines’ cargo business MASkargo and Qatar Airways Cargo. IAG Cargo has been strengthening its cargo infrastructure and connectivity in preparation for the wider integration of the three carriers’ cargo networks.

IAG Cargo’s broader investment in its network comes as demand for specialist logistics services remains resilient. In its first-half 2026 results, the company reported continued strong demand for specialised logistics solutions, with Constant Climate volumes benefiting from increased demand from Asia-Pacific and shipments supporting vaccination programmes in West Africa.

Expanding the global cold chain

The Kuala Lumpur addition gives pharmaceutical shippers another controlled-handling point within IAG Cargo’s global network and strengthens the connection between Southeast Asian markets and European distribution hubs.

IAG Cargo currently operates a network spanning the major hubs of London, Madrid, Dublin and Barcelona, with capacity provided across IAG’s airline network. Its Constant Climate service is dedicated to the movement of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals and life-saving medicines.

The company’s investment in specialist pharmaceutical infrastructure reflects the increasing importance of dependable cold-chain logistics as healthcare manufacturers expand global distribution and introduce increasingly temperature-sensitive products.

For freight forwarders and pharmaceutical manufacturers, the Kuala Lumpur station adds another specialised gateway for moving high-value healthcare cargo between Southeast Asia and international markets while maintaining the temperature-control requirements critical to product integrity.
