Comprehensive service offering for online retailers
Cross-border online trade continues to grow inexorably. As one of the world’s leading cargo airlines, Lufthansa Cargo traditionally offers outstanding transport solutions for the airmail sector as a whole and in the classic air freight business. However, ongoing digitization has resulted in new standards with multiple layers, especially in the e-commerce segment, that go beyond the conventional core business of a cargo airline.
Lufthansa Cargo has founded “heyworld” in order to offer custom solutions from a single source to meet these requirements in the future. As a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Frankfurt am Main, heyworld will focus fully on the needs of the e-commerce industry. Its services, in the form of configurable, transparent and reliable transport solutions, will be especially designed for online retailers, digital marketplaces, online shop operators and forwarders.
“We have clearly identified the new customer requirements and developed an additional transport offering for online retailers,” said Stefan Frankenhauser, Head of Product & Service Development at Lufthansa Cargo. heyworld will offer a modular service portfolio characterized by convenient access, fast transport times, a high level of reliability, simple customs clearance, end-to-end shipment tracking and pricing at package level. It will embed Lufthansa Cargo’s conventional airport-to-airport air cargo services into its transport solutions and integrate optional services, such as first- and last-mile transfers and handling add-ons.
“By establishing heyworld, we are creating a simple and reliable transport solution for the e-commerce sector,” said Peter Gerber, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo. “With our dynamic team of experienced logisticians and retail experts, we will be able to create the best transport solutions for cross-border online trade,” said Timo Schamber, Managing Director of heyworld GmbH. The heyworld offering is now available to customers. www.heyworld.com
Reassignments all part of the Group’s normal rotation policy
Effective 1 July, Thomas Sonntag will take over at the helm of Jettainer GmbH, the leading international service partner for outsourced ULD management. He will thereby succeed Carsten Hernig as Managing Director. Thomas Sonntag, a qualified mechanical engineer, joined Lufthansa Cargo ten years ago as Vice President Procurement & Infrastructure. Effective 1 July, Carsten Hernig will assume the role of Head of Region Latin America & Caribbean at Lufthansa Cargo. He will be based in Sao Paolo. He began his career with the company as Manager for Sales Management and Capacity Planning for the Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore. In this role, Carsten Hernig was responsible for station operation, sales and marketing in 19 countries with 29 subsidiaries in South Asia, the Gulf region and the Middle East up to late 2013. He has been Managing Director of Jettainer GmbH since 2014.
Gunnar Löhr, previously Head of Region Latin America & Caribbean, will assume the role of Head of Supply Management & Infrastructure at Lufthansa Cargo, effective 1 July 2019. Löhr will thereby return to the company headquarters in Frankfurt. He will be responsible for procurement and supplier management at the cargo airline in his future role and will report directly to Dr Martin Schmitt, Board Member Finance and Human Resources. Löhr began his career with Lufthansa Cargo in 2002 as Regional Performance Manager Handling Spain & Portugal in Madrid and later took on various management responsibilities in Sharjah, Dubai and Frankfurt. He was named Director Global Handling Processes & Performance in 2011, before being appointed Director of Regional Management South America, Caribbean & Florida, based in Sao Paolo, in 2015. He has been responsible from there for the entire Latin America & Caribbean region since 2017.
These swaps are intended as staff development measures within the context of Lufthansa’s normal rotation policy for high-ranking management positions.
