RIX Riga Airport has marked a major milestone in its international aviation network, celebrating two decades of partnership with Turkish Airlines. The anniversary underscores the enduring collaboration that has connected Latvia to global markets via Istanbul—one of the world’s most strategically positioned aviation hubs.
The milestone highlights the long-standing role of the Riga–Istanbul route in enhancing both passenger and cargo connectivity. Over the past 20 years, the partnership has enabled seamless access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network, reinforcing Riga Airport’s position as a key regional gateway in the Baltic region.
Arturs Saveljevs, Chief Commercial Officer and Board Member at RIX Riga Airport, reflected on the significance of the collaboration in a recent public statement. He emphasised that the relationship has been built on trust, reliability, and a shared commitment to delivering consistent service quality, even amid the aviation sector’s cyclical challenges.
Beyond passenger travel, the route has played a critical role in facilitating air cargo flows. By linking Latvia to a major global hub, the partnership has supported trade and logistics movements, providing exporters and freight operators with efficient access to international markets across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
To commemorate the anniversary, Riga Airport hosted a series of celebratory activities. These included a traditional water salute for the arriving aircraft—an aviation tribute reserved for notable occasions—alongside cultural performances by Latvian dance group “Dzirnas” and dedicated hospitality for passengers and guests.
The event served not only as a celebration of past achievements but also as a reaffirmation of future collaboration. Saveljevs expressed appreciation for Turkish Airlines, describing the carrier as a strong and trusted partner that has contributed significantly to the airport’s growth and international reach.
As global aviation continues to evolve, the two-decade partnership between RIX Riga Airport and Turkish Airlines illustrates the importance of sustained airline-airport collaboration in driving connectivity, supporting cargo operations, and strengthening regional integration into global air transport networks.
