Cainiao has expanded its customs clearance and fulfilment capabilities in Mexico as the Chinese e-commerce logistics and technology company looks to improve the speed, visibility and reliability of cross-border shipments in one of Latin America’s fastest-growing e-commerce markets.
The company is integrating customs clearance more closely with last-mile delivery, allowing parcels to move through its logistics network with greater visibility and tighter control over exceptions. Cainiao said the approach is designed to reduce delays and risks associated with multiple handoffs during the import and delivery process.
Cainiao provides international customs services covering clearance, logistics, foreign-exchange settlement and taxation, supported by digital customs systems and capabilities in areas including classification, market access and permits.

The company entered the Mexican market in 2024 and has since expanded its local logistics infrastructure. Its operations now include a 20,000 sq m sorting centre and 38 consolidation and delivery stations, according to Cainiao.
Located close to Felipe Ángeles International Airport, the sorting centre provides a strategic gateway for inbound international shipments and supports the transfer and processing of parcels entering the Mexican market. Cainiao plans to introduce additional automation at the facility to improve sorting productivity and increase capacity during peak periods.
The company has also developed relationships with major international and domestic e-commerce platforms and brands, including Inditex, Mercado Libre, Temu and TikTok, as it expands its presence across Mexico’s e-commerce logistics market.
Cainiao has continued to broaden its cross-border service offering. Earlier this month, the company introduced a faster cross-border logistics service covering 15 international routes, with delivery times of as little as three calendar days.
Its domestic express network in Mexico has also expanded from 20 states to nationwide coverage. Cainiao has introduced local pickup services in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, while selected areas of the two regions now have two-day delivery. Major cities elsewhere in Mexico can be served within three days, according to the company.
Technology is central to Cainiao’s expansion strategy. The company is applying artificial intelligence to dispatching and route planning, as well as address and image recognition, to improve last-mile accuracy and fulfilment performance.
Cainiao says its broader global logistics network now covers more than 200 countries and regions, with more than 380 sorting centres worldwide and approximately 170 chartered flights and block-space agreements each week. The company also works with service providers at more than 100 ports and has established digital customs-clearance capabilities across its international network.
Shen Jianfeng, vice president of Cainiao, said demand in Mexico was becoming increasingly diverse as both cross-border and domestic e-commerce continued to expand.
“Mexico’s cross-border and domestic e-commerce sectors are both growing rapidly, making the market a key focus for Cainiao,” Jianfeng said. “We will continue to strengthen our local network and team capabilities.”
Cainiao said cross-border sellers are increasingly seeking stable and compliant customs clearance alongside greater control of the end-to-end fulfilment process. At the same time, the expansion of domestic e-commerce is raising expectations among Mexican sellers for wider coverage, faster delivery and more precise logistics services.
The investment in customs and fulfilment infrastructure positions Cainiao to support both international merchants shipping into Mexico and domestic e-commerce businesses seeking broader logistics coverage as online retail continues to develop across the country.
