Qatar Airways Cargo Expands Global Network as Operations Gradually Rebound

Qatar Airways Cargo has taken another significant step in restoring its global operations, announcing an expanded schedule that reflects a steady increase in both belly-hold and freighter capacity to and from its hub in Doha.

According to the latest update, the carrier’s passenger (belly-hold) network is set to surpass 150 destinations from mid-June, marking a substantial recovery in global connectivity. At the same time, its dedicated freighter network has expanded to more than 50 destinations, reinforcing the airline’s role as a critical player in international cargo logistics.

Phased Recovery and Operational Adjustments

The network expansion forms part of a broader, phased restoration strategy aimed at aligning capacity with demand while maintaining operational reliability. As services resume, Qatar Airways Cargo has begun gradually lifting previously imposed embargoes on specific shipment categories.

However, certain sensitive cargo types remain restricted. These include select live animal shipments under specific handling codes, human organs and blood consignments, as well as urgent critical cargo under specialized product categories. The airline indicated that these restrictions are being reviewed continuously as operational conditions evolve.

Updated Handling Protocols for Specialized Cargo

The carrier has introduced updated guidelines for QRLIV shipments, allowing bookings under several special handling codes, provided transit time through Doha does not exceed 24 hours. For shipments requiring longer transit durations, customers must obtain prior approval from the airline’s Cargo Special Loads team.

Additionally, certain restricted handling categories—such as specific animal and documentation shipments—are scheduled to reopen for booking from mid-May, signaling a gradual normalization of specialized cargo services.

Digital Access and Booking Continuity

Despite the phased lifting of restrictions, Qatar Airways Cargo confirmed that all other cargo products remain available through its standard booking channels. Customers can continue to access capacity via the airline’s Digital Lounge platform as well as through local sales teams, ensuring continuity in service and operational transparency.

Strengthening Global Supply Chains

The continued restoration of Qatar Airways Cargo’s network comes at a time when global supply chains are under pressure to adapt to shifting trade patterns and rising demand for air freight capacity. By expanding its reach and maintaining flexibility in cargo handling, the airline is positioning itself to support critical logistics flows across industries.

As international trade gradually stabilizes, the expansion of both belly-hold and freighter operations highlights the growing importance of integrated air cargo networks in ensuring timely and efficient movement of goods worldwide.
