Induction of a Jetran-owned Boeing 777-200LR expands Mammoth Freighters’ global modification network and strengthens conversion capacity in Asia

Mammoth Freighters has inducted its first Boeing 777-200LR aircraft for passenger-to-freighter conversion at STAECO’s facility in Qingdao, China, marking the start of the company’s 777 conversion programme at the Chinese maintenance and modification provider.

The aircraft, registered N60VL and bearing manufacturer serial number 39254, is owned by Jetran LLC. Its induction marks a new stage in Mammoth’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific market, adding a Chinese facility to its existing conversion network in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Announced by Mammoth Freighters on 15 October 2026, the milestone follows the company’s selection of STAECO as a conversion partner in July. The aircraft will be modified into Mammoth’s 777-200LRMF configuration, a long-range widebody freighter designed for international cargo operations.

Cameron France, vice-president of operations at Mammoth Freighters, said the induction represented an important step in expanding the company’s global conversion network. He highlighted STAECO’s technical expertise, skilled workforce and experience in freighter modifications as key strengths for the programme.

Expanding conversion capacity in Asia

The addition of STAECO gives aircraft owners and operators another geographic option for converting passenger aircraft into freighters, particularly those serving cargo markets in China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

STAECO brings extensive experience in aircraft modification, including passenger-to-freighter conversion programmes. Under the partnership, the company will carry out Mammoth’s proprietary Boeing 777 modifications at its Qingdao facility.

The expansion comes amid demand for long-range, widebody freighters capable of serving international cargo networks. Establishing conversion capacity closer to Asian operators could offer greater logistical flexibility and support the development of additional freighter capacity in the region.

Huang Enfang, chairman of STAECO, said the arrival of the first aircraft marked a significant step in expanding the company’s widebody freighter conversion capabilities. He said the team would apply its modification experience and technical expertise to the Mammoth 777 programme.

Jetran, the aircraft owner, is also a key partner in the project. The company has expressed confidence in Mammoth and STAECO and expects additional converted aircraft to enter the global cargo market.

Developing the Mammoth 777 freighter programme

Mammoth’s conversion programme transforms Boeing 777 passenger aircraft into dedicated freighters, combining the platform’s long-range capabilities with a purpose-designed cargo configuration.

The company offers conversions for the Boeing 777-200LR and 777-300ER, producing the 777-200LRMF and 777-300ERMF variants, respectively. Mammoth received US Federal Aviation Administration certification for its 777-200LRMF conversion in April 2026, clearing the model for commercial service.

The Qingdao facility complements Mammoth’s existing conversion operations at Aspire MRO in Fort Worth, Texas, and STS Aviation Services in Manchester, England. The company’s previously announced plans include two conversion lines at STAECO, with the second line expected to begin operations in early 2027.

The first aircraft’s induction establishes the foundation for Mammoth’s planned expansion in China. As the programme develops, the additional facility is expected to improve access to conversion services for customers across Asia and other international markets, supporting the continued growth of long-haul air cargo capacity.
