Freighter LX-VCF suffered a left-wing landing gear collapse while parked at Luxembourg Airport; no injuries were reported.
Cargolux has introduced precautionary inspections across its global Boeing 747-8F fleet after the left-wing landing gear of one of its freighters collapsed while the aircraft was parked at Luxembourg Airport on October 23.
The aircraft, registered as LX-VCF, was stationary on its parking stand when the incident occurred. Cargolux confirmed that no crew members, employees or other individuals were injured.
The Luxembourg-based cargo airline said recovery operations were under way in coordination with the relevant authorities, while an investigation was launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Additional checks across the 747-8F fleet
As a precaution, Cargolux has mandated additional inspections of its Boeing 747-8F aircraft worldwide before their next flights. The company has not publicly detailed the scope of the inspections or indicated whether the measures will affect its flight schedules.
The checks apply specifically to the Boeing 747-8F fleet. The airline has not announced a comparable inspection requirement for its Boeing 747-400 freighters.
The cause of the landing gear collapse remains undetermined. Cargolux has said it is working with the relevant authorities as the investigation and aircraft recovery proceed.
Safety and operational implications
The incident highlights the importance of technical inspections and ground-safety procedures in large-scale freighter operations. Although the aircraft was parked rather than taking off or landing, a landing gear collapse can present significant recovery challenges and potentially affect airport operations.
For cargo operators, precautionary fleet inspections can also require additional maintenance coordination and aircraft availability planning. However, Cargolux has not confirmed any service disruption or provided a timeline for returning LX-VCF to operation.
The airline reiterated that safety remains its highest priority and said further assessments are continuing with the relevant stakeholders.
