Azul’s domestic e-commerce operations push up revenues

Brazilian carrier Azul is celebrating 11 years of operations and has said that despite the coronavirus pandemic this year, it has seen growth in some areas of the business.

In the first quarter of 2020, Azul Cargo Express’s revenues were 36% higher than in the same period of 2019.

The company said that its growth in revenues was achieved by its domestic door-to-door delivery business model and cargo-in-the-cabin ‘preigher’ flights.

Azul added that in the second quarter, due to passenger travel restrictions, it operated a reduced flight network that caused an 83% reduction in its cargo capacity offering.

However, despite this capacity cut, it achieved “stable” revenues that were 0.8% lower than than the second quarter of 2019.

The company also expects to achieve a record high increase in revenues and cargo demand in the third quarter of 2020, as a result of its involvement in the growing e-commerce sector.

Izabel Reis, director of Azul Cargo Express, commented: “I want to thank our crew, representatives and customers who make us always more willing to innovate, thinking and developing personalised and differentiated products and services in this market.

“Our focus is always on quality and promoting logistical solutions that are viable for each type of client, to meet all types of demand. This scenario showed us how adaptable we are and that we can get anywhere.

She added: “We still have a lot to grow and we are confident with what lies ahead”.
