Boeing, the world-renowned aerospace company, has partnered with GMR Aero Technic to set up the first freighter conversion line in India.
This new venture will enable India to expand its air cargo capacity and strengthen its position as a hub for air cargo in the region.
The freighter conversion line will be located at GMR Aero Technic’s facility at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
The facility will be equipped with the latest technologies and infrastructure to convert passenger planes into cargo planes. The conversion process involves removing the seats, installing a cargo door, reinforcing the floor and adding other structural modifications to the aircraft.
The Boeing and GMR partnership will leverage the strengths of both companies.
Boeing has vast experience in aircraft manufacturing and has converted over 1300 aircraft into freighters.
GMR Aero Technic, on the other hand, has a state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad and has been providing aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services for over a decade.
The new freighter conversion line is expected to create hundreds of jobs in the region, providing a boost to the local economy.
It will also enhance India’s air cargo capacity, which is becoming increasingly important as the country’s economy grows and e-commerce continues to expand.
