Global Aviation Link expands freighter network through ABX Air ACMI deal
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Global Aviation Link (GAL) is expanding its regional air freight operation through a long-term agreement with ABX Air to operate a Boeing 767-300 freighter on its behalf, adding dedicated capacity as the Miami-based company develops new markets across Latin America.

Under the agreement, a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group (ATSG), ABX Air will provide the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) services for the operation. ATSG announced the agreement on 15 September 2026 as part of its broader strategy to expand charter and flexible ACMI solutions for customers seeking additional cargo capacity.

Global Aviation Link said the additional freighter will support its expansion into new markets, including Caracas, Venezuela; Medellín, Colombia; and Quito, Ecuador. Juan Pablo Luchau of GAL said the partnership with ATSG would extend the company’s regional reach and support its air freight and cold-chain activities.

The company has more than 25 years of experience commercialising Boeing 767-300 freighter capacity across Central and South America. Its current operation includes scheduled Miami–Bogotá services, while its broader charter division provides access to Boeing 767-300 aircraft for regional operations.

GAL’s own website identifies perishables, pharmaceuticals, aerospace shipments and other specialised cargo among the commodities it handles. The company also operates temperature-controlled facilities and transportation capabilities from its Miami base, supporting shipments that require controlled handling throughout the logistics chain.

According to GAL’s published schedule, its Miami–Bogotá operation uses Boeing 767-300 capacity and offers space for palletised cargo, including perishables, aerospace products, pharmaceuticals, general cargo and dangerous goods. The company also states that its charter division supports operations across Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

The new agreement adds dedicated aircraft capacity to GAL’s existing regional network at a time when the company is seeking to broaden its Latin American footprint. The planned destinations named by the company provide additional connections for cargo moving between the United States and markets in northern South America.

For ATSG, the deal represents another application of its Boeing 767 freighter fleet and its ACMI operating model. ATSG operates ABX Air alongside other aviation businesses providing aircraft leasing, cargo and passenger airline operations, maintenance and related aviation services. The group currently lists more than 100 aircraft in service, including Boeing 767, Airbus A321 and Airbus A330 freighters.

ATSG President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Mays said the agreement reflects the company’s strategy of matching customers with aircraft and operating capabilities suited to their network requirements. He added that ABX Air’s experience with the Boeing 767 positions the carrier to support GAL’s expansion.

The partnership also gives GAL access to an established ACMI operator while allowing it to develop additional markets without taking on the full range of direct airline operating responsibilities associated with owning or independently operating the aircraft.

With the additional 767-300 freighter, GAL is set to build on its existing Miami–Bogotá operation while pursuing further growth across Latin America, particularly in markets where demand for specialised, time-sensitive and temperature-controlled air freight is developing.
