The Board of Airline Representatives in Germany has further expanded its collaborative network with the addition of Hannover Airport (HAJ) as a new partner, strengthening ties between airlines and airport infrastructure stakeholders in Germany’s evolving aviation landscape.
The partnership brings Hannover Airport into closer alignment with BARIG’s member airlines, creating a platform for coordinated efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing ground handling services, and elevating the overall passenger experience. The move reflects a broader industry push toward integrated solutions that address the growing complexity of aviation operations, from security and sustainability to digital transformation.
Michael Hoppe, Chairman and Executive Director of BARIG, подчеркнул the importance of structured collaboration between airlines and airport operators. Hannover Airport holds a unique position within Germany’s aviation infrastructure as the only international commercial airport serving the state of Lower Saxony. Operating with a 24-hour license, the airport plays a vital role in northern Germany’s connectivity, supporting a mix of scheduled and charter passenger services alongside significant cargo operations.
Beyond its passenger function, HAJ serves as a multi-purpose aviation hub. It accommodates cargo handling activities, hosts the police helicopter squadron and the DRF air rescue service, and acts as an alternate base for emergency response units. The airport also functions as a maintenance and freight center, reinforcing its strategic importance in regional and international logistics chains.
In 2025, Hannover Airport handled approximately 5.3 million passengers and offered connections to more than 60 direct destinations. Its route portfolio includes major European cities, global transit hubs, and popular leisure destinations, underscoring its role as a key gateway for both passenger and cargo traffic.
