Acquisition enhances Kalé’s regulatory capabilities with EU customs compliance expertise, reinforcing its vision of building a global trade facilitation and logistics technology platform

Mumbai, India: Kalé Logistics Solutions (Kalé), a global provider of digital logistics and trade facilitation solutions, has announced the acquisition of Portel Logistics Technologies, a Spain-based specialist in port community systems and regulatory compliance software. The strategic acquisition significantly strengthens Kalé’s presence in Europe while expanding its capabilities to support customers navigating increasingly complex customs regulations and cross-border compliance requirements across the air cargo and maritime sectors.

The acquisition combines Kalé’s expertise in airport and port community systems with Portel’s deep knowledge of European Union customs regulations and digital compliance solutions, positioning the combined organisation to deliver more comprehensive trade facilitation services across global supply chains. The transaction has been confirmed through Kalé’s official announcement.

Strategic expansion into Europe’s regulatory landscape

The acquisition represents another important milestone in Kalé’s international growth strategy, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a leading global provider of technology solutions that simplify international trade while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Europe remains one of the world’s most highly regulated logistics markets, with evolving customs frameworks, advance cargo reporting requirements and digital trade initiatives driving demand for specialised compliance platforms. By integrating Portel’s established regulatory expertise with its own logistics technology portfolio, Kalé is significantly enhancing its ability to support customers operating within the European Union and beyond.

The move also builds on Kalé’s earlier acquisition of AvLog, an e-commerce technology provider, demonstrating the company’s continued investment in technologies supporting digital trade, cargo visibility and regulatory compliance.

Portel’s platforms strengthen compliance capabilities

A key benefit of the acquisition is the addition of Portel’s flagship compliance platforms, Dedalo and Vellore, which provide advanced electronic customs and regulatory solutions for both air cargo and maritime logistics operations.

The platforms support the electronic exchange of advance cargo information in accordance with the European Union’s Import Control System 2 (ICS2) requirements. ICS2 mandates that detailed cargo information be submitted electronically before goods arrive within the European Union, strengthening customs risk assessment and border security while facilitating smoother trade flows.

By automating advance cargo declarations and reducing manual customs processing, Dedalo and Vellore help freight forwarders, airlines, airports, ports, shipping lines and ground handling companies improve operational efficiency while maintaining full regulatory compliance.

The integration of these platforms significantly enhances Kalé’s existing airport and port community systems by adding sophisticated customs compliance functionality designed specifically for European trade requirements.

Expanded opportunities for customers

The acquisition creates mutual benefits for customers of both organisations.

Portel’s customer base of more than 350 organisations will gain access to Kalé’s broader portfolio of digital logistics solutions, including airport cargo community systems, port community systems, cargo management platforms and trade facilitation technologies.

At the same time, Kalé’s international customers will benefit from enhanced regulatory compliance capabilities that simplify customs processes and improve operational efficiency across European trade lanes.

The combined technology portfolio is expected to enable greater platform integration while providing customers with end-to-end digital solutions spanning cargo handling, customs compliance, shipment visibility and cross-border logistics management.

Kalé targets future growth through regulation and e-commerce

Commenting on the acquisition, Amar More, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kalé Logistics Solutions, said regulatory compliance and e-commerce will be among the most significant forces shaping the future of global logistics.

“Kalé strongly believes that e-commerce and regulation will be the key trends driving the future of the industry, and the acquisition of Portel is a defining step in Kalé’s journey to become the leading global platform for trade facilitation and logistics compliance, following our acquisition of AvLog, the e-commerce technology provider, earlier this year.”

More noted that combining compliance expertise with digital logistics solutions would enable Kalé to better support customers facing increasingly sophisticated international trade requirements.

Strengthening Kalé’s European presence

Vipul Jain, Chairman of the Kalé Group, highlighted the strategic importance of Portel’s local expertise and customer relationships across Europe.

“Portel’s expertise in EU regulatory mandates, combined with their strong local team and customer relationships, gives us the foundation we need to serve the European market with the depth and trust it deserves.”

He added that the acquisition would deliver immediate benefits for Kalé’s existing customers throughout Europe while expanding support for Spanish-speaking markets.

“Together, we are positioned to help the industry navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. This is also good news for Kalé’s existing customer base in the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Spain, Hungary, the United Kingdom and other European nations, as well as our Spanish-speaking customers in South America.”

The acquisition significantly expands Kalé’s operational footprint in Europe through Portel’s experienced regional team and long-established customer network.

Shared vision for innovation

Angel Ramirez, President of GTD Group, the former owner of Portel Logistics Technologies, described the acquisition as an opportunity to accelerate innovation and deliver greater customer value.

“Joining Kalé marks an exciting new chapter for Portel, our employees and our customers.”

He added that the complementary strengths of the two organisations would enhance future product development and service delivery.

“By combining Portel’s expertise in European regulatory compliance with Kalé’s global trade facilitation capabilities, we can deliver greater value to customers while accelerating innovation across our platforms.”

Building a compliance-first logistics technology ecosystem

The acquisition reflects a broader trend across the global logistics industry, where digital compliance, customs automation and regulatory technology are becoming central components of supply chain management.

As governments introduce increasingly sophisticated customs systems, advance cargo information requirements and security regulations, logistics providers are seeking technology platforms capable of automating compliance while maintaining efficient cargo flows.

By integrating Portel’s regulatory expertise into its expanding portfolio, Kalé is advancing its strategy of building a compliance-first global logistics technology platform that combines airport community systems, port community systems, e-commerce technologies and customs solutions into a unified digital ecosystem.

With international trade becoming increasingly data-driven and regulatory frameworks continuing to evolve, the acquisition positions Kalé to play a larger role in supporting airports, ports, airlines, freight forwarders and logistics operators as they navigate the next generation of global trade facilitation and digital compliance.
