The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has named Moses Wekesa as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following what the board described as a rigorous and competitive selection process. The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Kenya’s aviation sector, as the authority advances a series of infrastructure modernisation and expansion initiatives.

In its official statement, the board indicated that Wekesa emerged as the preferred candidate to lead KAA’s strategic agenda, particularly as it focuses on enhancing operational efficiency and scaling airport infrastructure to meet rising regional and international demand.

Wekesa brings extensive experience in infrastructure development, having worked on projects across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. Prior to this appointment, he served as Business Development Director at KenGen, where he led initiatives aimed at strengthening core business growth and expanding project portfolios. His background is expected to play a key role in supporting Kenya’s ambition to position itself as a leading aviation and logistics hub in the region.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Nairobi. He also holds postgraduate qualifications in finance, appraisal, and project planning from University of Bradford, reflecting a blend of technical and financial expertise aligned with large-scale infrastructure management.

The board also acknowledged the contributions of Mohamud Gedi, General Manager Finance, who served as Acting Managing Director during the transition period. It noted that leadership continuity was maintained effectively while key development programmes progressed.

Among the authority’s priority projects is the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a critical gateway for passenger and cargo traffic in East Africa. These upgrades are part of a broader strategy to enhance capacity, improve service delivery, and strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness in global aviation and logistics networks.

KAA reaffirmed its mandate to develop, manage, and operate airports and airstrips across the country, highlighting the sector’s growing contribution to national economic development. The board expressed confidence in Wekesa’s leadership as he takes charge of ongoing initiatives aimed at transforming Kenya’s airport infrastructure and supporting long-term growth.
