Mammoth Freighters has delivered its first converted Boeing 777-200LRMF freighter to US-based aircraft lessor Jetran, marking a significant milestone in the commercialisation of its widebody passenger-to-freighter conversion programme.

The aircraft, MSN 32222, is the first delivery from Jetran’s order for more than two dozen Mammoth 777-200LRMF conversions. Thirteen of those aircraft are committed to revenue operations within the DHL global network, with the first aircraft scheduled to enter service with DHL Air UK.

The delivery moves Mammoth’s 777-200LRMF programme from certification and demonstration into commercial fleet deployment. The aircraft had made its public appearance at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, where it was presented in DHL livery following its conversion in Manchester.

From conversion programme to commercial service

For Mammoth, the handover represents an important step in establishing its converted 777 as a commercially viable long-haul freighter platform.

Bill Tarpley, chief executive of Mammoth Freighters, described the delivery as a defining moment for the company, noting that the aircraft’s transition from public debut to imminent revenue service demonstrates the momentum behind the 777 programme.

Jetran chief executive Jordan Jaffe said the first delivery represents more than a fleet expansion, describing it as a validation of the engineering and production capabilities behind the conversion programme.

Further aircraft from Jetran’s order book, including units destined for DHL and Qatar Airways, are expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.

DHL expands commitment

DHL has increased its commitment to the Mammoth 777-200LRMF from the original nine aircraft to 13 freighters, with four planned to enter service during 2026. The first aircraft, MSN 32222, is a 2009-built Boeing 777-200LR formerly operated by Delta Air Lines.

The converted aircraft is intended to support DHL’s long-haul fleet modernisation programme, providing additional widebody freighter capacity while allowing the operator to leverage the economics and commonality of the 777 platform.

The 777-200LRMF is Mammoth’s flagship freighter conversion. The company’s product information positions the aircraft as a high-payload, long-range freighter designed for general cargo operations, with multiple main-deck cargo configurations.

Engineering for the cargo mission

The aircraft delivered to Jetran underwent its passenger-to-freighter conversion in Manchester. The modification included installation of a large main-deck cargo door, reinforced cargo flooring and an advanced cargo-handling system.

The programme received Federal Aviation Administration Supplemental Type Certification (STC) in April 2026, clearing the way for commercial deliveries of the converted aircraft.

The certification milestone was particularly significant for Mammoth as it established the regulatory foundation for production deliveries to customers, including Qatar Airways Cargo.

Qatar Airways and further deliveries

Jetran is also supporting the deployment of Mammoth 777-200LRMF aircraft with Qatar Airways Cargo, which has an agreement covering five aircraft. Additional deliveries to both Qatar Airways and DHL are expected as Mammoth increases production activity.

The first Jetran delivery comes at a time when demand for converted widebody freighters remains strong. The conversion model offers airlines and lessors an alternative to new-build freighters, particularly as operators seek additional capacity while managing fleet renewal costs and delivery timelines.

Mammoth is also developing a 777-300ERMF conversion programme, extending its strategy across both 777 widebody variants. The company says its broader objective is to provide global air cargo operators with flexible and economical long-range freighter solutions.

A significant milestone for the converted 777 market

The delivery of MSN 32222 marks an important transition for Mammoth Freighters: from developing and certifying its conversion technology to putting aircraft into revenue service with major global cargo operators.

With DHL’s expanded 13-aircraft commitment, Qatar Airways’ five-aircraft agreement and further Jetran deliveries expected, the programme is now moving into a production phase that could significantly increase the availability of converted 777 widebody freighters in the global market.

Editorial verification: The core delivery announcement has been cross-checked against Mammoth Freighters’ current corporate information and recent independent aviation and cargo-industry reporting. Mammoth’s official product information confirms the 777-200LRMF programme and its FAA-certified status, while recent industry reporting confirms the Jetran delivery, aircraft MSN and DHL deployment plans.
