Etihad Cargo has transported more than 120 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal on behalf of the UAE Aid Agency, supporting communities affected by recent floods and landslides across the country.

The relief operation included food, solar lights, blankets, tents, baby baskets and other essential emergency supplies. Etihad Cargo said the shipment forms part of the UAE’s continuing humanitarian response and is intended to support the rapid delivery of essential supplies to communities affected by the disaster.

Air Cargo Supports Emergency Response

The operation highlights the role of air cargo in humanitarian logistics when natural disasters disrupt conventional transport infrastructure and access to affected communities.

The UAE Aid Agency is coordinating relief activities with local authorities and international organisations in Nepal to support the delivery of assistance to people affected by the floods and landslides. The UAE has also deployed specialist personnel to support relief and search-and-rescue operations.

Etihad Cargo’s shipment forms part of a wider UAE airlift supporting the emergency response, with multiple aircraft carrying food, shelter materials, generators and other relief supplies.

UAE Allocates US$10 Million For Nepal

The UAE announced a US$10 million humanitarian assistance package for Nepal following directives from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The UAE Aid Agency said the funding is intended to support people affected by the floods and landslides, assist early recovery and provide essential supplies to communities facing the consequences of the disaster.

On August 30, the UAE reported the dispatch of an aircraft carrying 83 tonnes of food and shelter-related supplies. A second aircraft carrying 45 tonnes of relief materials, including food, essential items and power generators, arrived in Nepal the following day.

By September 4, the UAE reported that a third relief aircraft had arrived, carrying a specialist search-and-rescue team and a further 20 tonnes of aid, bringing the total UAE aid delivered to Nepal to 148 tonnes at that point.

Coordinated Humanitarian Logistics

The relief programme is being coordinated by the UAE Aid Agency in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Kathmandu and Nepalese authorities.

The UAE has also deployed specialists from the Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police Search and Rescue and the UAE Aid Agency. Their activities include disaster assessment, search and rescue, medical evacuation and first-aid support in coordination with Nepalese authorities.

For Etihad Cargo, the movement adds to the carrier’s role in supporting humanitarian supply chains from its Abu Dhabi hub, using its international cargo network to move emergency supplies to disaster-affected markets.

As Nepal continues its response to the floods and landslides, further coordination between humanitarian agencies, governments and air cargo operators will remain important to maintaining the flow of food, shelter materials and other essential supplies to affected communities.
