Three-year agreement coincides with China Eastern’s return to the Shanghai–Stockholm route after a six-year hiatus

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a SATS company, has renewed its cargo handling agreement with China Eastern Airlines at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, extending the partnership for another three years as the airline resumes nonstop services between Shanghai and Stockholm.

The renewed contract follows China Eastern’s return to the Swedish capital after a six-year break. WFS previously handled China Eastern’s cargo operations in Sweden, beginning the partnership in 2018.

China Eastern is now operating three round-trip flights per week between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Stockholm Arlanda, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The airline expects to transport more than 1,000 tonnes of cargo annually between the two cities.

The Shanghai–Stockholm connection provides an important air link between Scandinavia and Asia, supporting trade and tourism flows between the two regions.

WFS Expands Stockholm Cargo Role

Kim Elfström, Managing Director Sweden at WFS, welcomed China Eastern back to the company’s Stockholm operation, highlighting the strong relationship the two companies established before the pandemic.

WFS has maintained its broader Scandinavian relationship with China Eastern through an ongoing cargo handling contract in Copenhagen, according to the company.

The renewed Stockholm agreement strengthens WFS’s position in one of Northern Europe’s important cargo markets as China Eastern rebuilds its direct connectivity between China and Sweden.

More Than 18,000 Square Metres of Cargo Facilities

WFS operates two cargo terminals at Stockholm Arlanda, with a combined footprint of more than 18,000 square metres.

The facilities include Good Distribution Practice (GDP)-certified pharmaceutical handling capabilities as well as road transport services, enabling WFS to support a broad range of cargo requirements.

The company currently provides cargo handling and trucking services to more than 20 international airlines and freight forwarding customers at Stockholm Arlanda.

WFS’s Stockholm operation is also equipped to handle specialist cargo, cold-chain and pharmaceutical shipments, reflecting the growing importance of specialised logistics services at the airport.

Further Contract Growth in Stockholm

The China Eastern renewal follows several other developments for WFS in Stockholm.

Over the past 12 months, the company has also renewed its cargo handling contract with Singapore Airlines and secured a new handling agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways, further expanding its customer portfolio at Arlanda.

The latest agreement with China Eastern adds to WFS’s wider relationship with the airline group. WFS also handles China Eastern and China Cargo Airlines operations at several other European locations, including Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan and Paris.

With China Eastern’s Shanghai service restored and the cargo handling agreement extended, WFS is positioned to support the airline’s renewed operations and anticipated cargo growth between China and Scandinavia.
