Lufthansa Cargo Launches Regular Freighter Flights Between Frankfurt and Katowice
New Route Strengthens Cargo Network in Central and Eastern Europe
Lufthansa Cargo has officially launched its regular Airbus A321 freighter flights between Frankfurt Airport and Katowice Airport, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s services in Poland. The inaugural flight arrived at Katowice on April 4th at 16:00 hrs, with the return flight to Frankfurt departing about an hour and a half later. This new route will operate twice a week, offering enhanced cargo connectivity between the two cities.
The new service is an extension of Lufthansa Cargo’s existing presence in Poland. In January 2021, the airline established a Road Feeder Service (RFS) freight consolidation facility at Katowice Airport’s cargo terminal, allowing for more streamlined freight operations in the region.
Wojciech Ryglewicz, Director of Sales & Handling for Central & Eastern Europe at Lufthansa Cargo, commented on the new service, saying, “The launch of a regular cargo route between Frankfurt and Katowice is not only a further step in the development of our operational network in Central and Eastern Europe, but above all a response to the growing needs of industry in the region. Fast and reliable air transport has become an essential component of modern supply chains, enabling companies to remain competitive globally.”

Ryglewicz further emphasized that the new connection will be crucial for supporting the industrial sector’s growth in the region, contributing to Poland’s long-term economic potential.
Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, highlighted the significance of the new service for Katowice Airport, stating, “The launch of Lufthansa Cargo’s regular flights on the Frankfurt–Katowice route marks an important milestone in the development of cargo operations at our airport. We are the first Polish airport to handle Lufthansa Cargo’s regular flights, underscoring the airport’s growing importance in air cargo across Central Europe.”
The new service underscores Lufthansa Cargo’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the Central and Eastern European markets and further enhancing the connectivity of Poland’s industrial sector to global markets.
